However, the "French Connection" style was not without its critics. Some purists within the industry argued that the hyper-polished, idealized depictions of intimacy lacked authenticity. Others pointed out that despite the artistic framing, the films still relied on deeply traditional and patriarchal fantasy tropes.
However, it was in 1968 that Dorcel discovered his true calling. He began publishing erotic literature, releasing a book titled Select Diffusion which became an unexpected bestseller, selling over twenty thousand copies in less than three months. This success encouraged him to pivot toward visual media.
