The movie follows the story of Surinder (Shah Rukh Khan), a 41-year-old man who is unhappy with his life. He is a bank clerk who feels trapped in his mundane routine. One day, he meets a 22-year-old girl named Taani (Katrina Kaif) and falls in love with her. They get married, but their happiness is short-lived. Taani soon discovers that Surinder is actually a 22-year-old boy named Raj who was presumed dead. Raj's family had given up on him, and he was forced to assume a new identity.
