While sometimes confused with the handheld Yaesu FT-250R, the Sommerkamp FT-250 is a full-sized desktop HF transceiver

Unlike modern transceivers with built-in power supplies or simple 13.8V DC inputs, the FT-250 requires a hefty external power supply unit (typically the Sommerkamp FP-250 or Yaesu FP-200). This external unit provides the various high and low voltages required by the tubes and transistors, including the 600V–800V DC plate voltage for the final amplifiers.
