Determined to prove himself, Checco leaves his hometown and heads north to Milan, the city of opportunity. He goes to live with his cousin Alfredo, who is secretly hiding his homosexuality from his traditional southern family. In Milan, Checco's journey is full of mishaps and cultural clashes. He falls in love with Marika, the daughter of a fervent supporter of the Northern League ("Lega Nord"), a political party known for its anti-southern Italian prejudice. Adding to the chaos, Checco begins participating in various auditions. His unique blend of musical and comedic talent is eventually recognized, setting him on a path to becoming a phenomenon.
