This study investigates whether the Jean-Marie Reynaud Magic loudspeakers—renowned for their phase-coherent design and flat frequency response (±1.5 dB from 50 Hz–20 kHz)—reveal any statistically significant perceptual differences between original CD playback (via a reference transport) and FLAC versions (24-bit/96 kHz downsampled to 16/44.1) of the same master recordings. Using a double-blind ABX methodology with 42 trained listeners in 2021, we found no detectable difference above chance level (p > 0.05) when comparing CD-original vs. FLAC-reconstructed signals, provided the FLAC decoder introduced no timing jitter or filtering artifacts.
