The story opens dramatically in Palermo on January 15, 1993, when Cosa Nostra super boss Salvatore Riina is arrested after 23 years as a fugitive. In prison, he receives a visit from his childhood friend, Biagio Schirò, triggering a long flashback. We see young Riina, forced to become the family's provider after the tragic bomb explosion. These early episodes show the seeds of ruthlessness being planted in fertile Sicilian soil.
